Species: Lobaria pulmonaria Photos: On fallen Oak branch. Glengarrif woods, Cork, SW Ireland. Large grey-green to bright green, wrinkled thallus, lobe-ends often incised. Under surface tomentose, whitish-tan. Isidia and coarse soredia form on ridges on upper surface. Apothecia are occasional, red-brown with thin margins. 'Old forest' indicator found on well-lit deciduous trees and mossy rocks in un-polluted areas. Most frequent in SW of Ireland. Medulla: K+ yellow-orange, P+ orange Part of Lobarion lichen community, found in Atlantic woodlands. |
